Casa Anna, Cala Gonone, Sardinia
Enjoying superb panoramic sea views, Casa Anna is perched high above a bay of pink shingle sand on the southern fringes of the small resort of Cala Gonone. Part of a genteel hillside development of forty or so terraced and privately owned holiday apartments, Casa Anna, was by far the nicest one we were offered, being particularly well furnished and maintained, plus having the advantage of a pretty little garden to the rear, complete with shady purpose built barbecue area.
Mellow summer days begin with breakfast on the terrace, accompanied by unbroken seascapes. Green shuttered patio doors lead into the neat open plan
living area, with table and chairs positioned to optimise the views and a sofa to the side. To the rear of the room the spruce little kitchen has a 4 ring gas hob and large fridge-freezer plus attractive stained pine cupboards and polished granite work surfaces.
From the kitchen, a pine door opens into the entrance hallway, off which are two bedrooms, sharing a nicely tiled shower room. The double bedroom although small, is very attractive and welcoming with fitted pine wardrobes either side of the bed and a lovely sea view window that captures the early morning sun .
The second bedroom, ideal for children, has bunk beds with a window towards the garden which slopes upward in
small terraces towards the private access road to the rear. Hidden away amongst the fauna, is an outside shower and a very attractive brick built barbecue, complete with covered terrace and a marble table, perfect for alfresco meals, with the deep blue just visible over the apartment's terracotta roof tiles.
From the private road, below the front of the apartments, it's a 10-minute walk via a steepish footpath, down to the beach and then a further 10 or 15 minutes along the seafront into town.
For a change of scene and totally natural surroundings, a 5 minute drive southward will bring you to a parking spot at the end of the road from where stone steps lead steeply down to the lovely little cove of Cala Fuili. This is also the starting point of the footpath that leads to the celebrated Cala Luna beach, a two-hour walk according to the local guidebook, with the option of catching a boat back to the harbour in Cala Gonone, if returning on foot proves too much.
Location of Casa Anna
Cala Gonone, Sardinia
South of Orosei lies the village of Cala Gonone. Until recent times, this independent community of seafaring folk was only accessible by boat or on foot by a perilous path hewn out of the cliff-side. However, Cala Gonone can now be reached via a road tunnel that cuts straight through the mountainside to reveal a splendid panoramic view of the Golf of Orosei. From the tunnels exit, a steep and winding road leads down through wooded hillsides, until you reach the village centre with its tree-lined promenade, restaurants, shops, fine sandy beaches and colourful fishing harbour. ...More about Cala Gonone >>

"Casa Anna is a wonderful Sardinian hideaway. The apartment is an ideal base for couples or small families, and the ocean views and gentle cooling breezes are a delight. Close enough to the town of Cala Gonone and all its amenities (an easy and short walk by either road or via the beach) and yet far enough away to ensure a tranquil environment, the apartment is clean, light and well equipped. We spent much of our time relaxing on the ocean-view terrace, and then transferred to the private back garden late afternoon to enjoy the lingering rays of the sun, accompanied by a cold glass of local Vermentino. Bliss! The beach below the apartment is great for snorkeling, and there are several alternative routes down that would suit those less actively inclined or with small children. Many of the previous reviews recommended Il Pescatore, and we thoroughly enjoyed our lazy lunch there. From a self-catering perspective, Casa Anna give you the option to eat alfresco in a shaded area by the private bbq, or cook up a storm in the small but perfectly formed kitchen. Europa in Casa Anna was our preferred supermarket, and we loaded up on local Sardinian delicacies such as carasua (music bread), pecorino, and fresh pasta. "
"Casa Anna is a true gem. Mountains on one side, sea on the other. Endless blue from the balcony. Close enough to the town to be convenient, and just far enough away to be secluded. The beach in front is perfectly acceptable, but if you want to drive 10 minutes you can arrive at one of those unique postcard Med beaches you see in the magazines. Good food a few minutes drive away, plenty of supermarkets, in this super chilled town. We met the owners briefly and they were ace - so friendly! All said, Casa Anna is exceptional - we will be back."
"Beautiful view and garden"
