Villa Kallisto, Almerida, Crete
A 2 mins drive (or 25 mins walk) up the quiet lane that leads away from the lovely sandy cove around which the village of Almirida is strung, brings you to Villa Kallisto, its brazen clean lines and uncluttered grey facades making a bold statement of modern architecture yet sitting surprisingly at ease amongst the olive trees. Far removed from ancient Cretan dwellings, Nectarios and Penny (who also own Villa Nynemia) commissioned their new villa to showcase the style and taste of a new age and guests staying here will be lucky enough to discover the ideas behind the design.
On arrival you will immediately begin to appreciate the concept of the villa as, with all three bedrooms on the ground floor, it requires minimal effort to unload your luggage and hang holiday clothes in the spacious wardrobes. Sliding glass doors open from each 'boutique hotel' inspired bedroom onto a patio by the pool area perfect for that first dip. All three spacious bedrooms (two double and one twin) have sleek en-suite shower rooms equipped with hydro massage showers, hair dryers and English plumbing!
Stairs, both internal and external, lead to the upper floor where the living space profits from its position at the top of the house for maximum impact of breathtaking panoramic views over Souda Bay and the commanding White Mountains. Moving around, sitting or standing, each intriguingly placed window frames a different snapshot of a kaleidoscope of views. This is a light and uncluttered sociable space to enjoy whether cooking; dining or just 'chilling out' (and on that subject, the air conditioning is included in the price). Equipped with flat screen satellite TV, DVD Player and music system and furnished with hand crafted bespoke furniture - amazing suede corner sofa, wood and glass dining table and leather covered dining chairs - the living area simply exudes style. Clean modern lines in the kitchen offer all that you might expect from a Villa of this calibre - large fridge freezer, electric fan oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher and capuccino- espresso machine. Three double sliding French windows open onto a wide dual aspect terrace furnished for open air dining and overlooking the 5000sq m of olive groves in which Villa Kallisto is set and the exemplary 11.5m x 5m mineral spa water pool.
Just one link with the past has been forged with Villa Kallisto - translated from ancient Greek, Kallisto means Most Beautiful and each visitor will return home with their own opinion of whether this Villa was named for its architecture, furnishings or views.
There is a purpose built barbecue and outside dining furniture near to the pool which has roman steps leading into it and an overall depth of 1.50m
All the windows are fitted with mosquito screens and electric roll down shutters and there is a washing machine in one of the shower rooms.
**NON-SMOKING PROPERTY**
*** You can have more room in your cases as Penny is providing pool towels for her guests this year!
