Achilles Apt 1, Kalamaki, Crete
Set back above the coast road on a small private hill with lawned gardens to the rear, these two individual properties share their own 14 metre fan shaped swimming pool and enjoy an enviable position and superb seaviews. With the sandy beach of Kalamaki no more than 300 metres away and a number of nearby tavernas and small supermarkets, the situation couldn't be more convenient and car hire, although useful, is certainly not essential.
We have featured these properties in our programme almost since the conception of Freelance Holidays in 1984 and over the years they have become firm favourites of many of our customers. They are owned by Achilles and Manolis, two brothers from a wealthy and distinguished Chania family. Pavlos, Achilles son, who was not much more than a boy when we first met is now a medical practitioner in Chania and is following the family tradition of looking after our guests, while his father and Uncle look forward to a happy and well earned retirement for which we would like to wish them well! N.B. Some traffic noise is audible from the coast road.
This, the original apartment, is at ground floor level with its own lawned area to the side and is just a hop and a skip from the pool. The extensive terraces on two sides are supplied with comfortable patio furniture, plus a large wooden dining table and there's also a brick built barbecue. The spacious open plan living area has a raised dining area with patio doors to the terrace. A breakfast bar separates the well-equipped kitchen, with, large fridge freezer, full electric oven and a washing machine. There are one double and one twin bedroom both with patio doors to a covered terrace facing the sea and a further bedroom with bunk beds plus a single bed and patio doors to a small balcony. The 3 bedrooms share a full bathroom plus a separate shower room.

| For a family of seven like ours, Achilles was paradise! We had the pool more or less to ourselves, the garden excellent for fooling around, and everything we needed within walking distance. Lying in the pool watching the sun set over Rodopou was just one of many grand experiences.
We've been to Crete many times before, and will come again, hopefully to stay in Achilles again! The kids loved the pool, the garden, the peaches, the turtle... And playing with Achilleas :) The flat was perfect, I can't think of anything I would have changed! |

| There is a nice family feel about this place, the owner gave us oil and raki when we arrived and a homemade cake each week. We will come again. The road noise is bit louder than the last time we went and may be should be mentioned although it didn't bother us but could affect some folks. The pool area is brilliant |

| We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, perfect for our daughter and her family, being so close to the beach and shops as well as all the lovely tavernas. It was just as we remembered it from 10 years ago, especially Mamas restaurant! In all this july rain we wish we were back there! Everyone had a wonderful time, lots of space for our 2 young grand daughters to play and swim, and the beach is excellent. Many thanks. |
