Cormoranos Apt, Nopigia, Crete
Less than 150 metres from the beach, this neat little oasis of 12 comfortable apartments is set in walled gardens with an inviting swimming pool surrounded by lush green lawns with exotic palms and colourful splashes of bougainvillaea. The pool measures 11m x 6.5m with a children's pool to one side and has been carefully located to avoid disturbing the shady willow tree which provides a welcome leafy retreat from the hot summer sun.
Within sight and sound of the sea and a truly magnificent rugged mountain backdrop, this is a place where slowing down somehow comes naturally and a quick early morning dip, followed by coffee in the taverna afterwards, can comfortably fill a whole morning, with lunch time looming on the horizon before you know it!
Georgos and Vassilis are the owners of the apartments and both, master carpenters by profession. Georgos who is now retired likes to spend his time fishing and leaves his younger brother Vassilis to run the carpentry business, while his wife Evangelio and sister in law Maria look after the apartments!Â
The apartments are all quite similar with a main entrance door leading into a small open plan living area with dining table and chairs, plus a sofa that can be converted into one or two single beds. To one side of the room the neatly appointed kitchenette has a small electric cooker with 2 hobs and a small fridge. Doors off the living room lead to a tiled shower room, plus a well furnished and comfortable twin bedroom. For extra living space, all the apartments have at least two terraces with patio furniture.
For convenience of guests there is a communal washing machine.
Georgos, Vassilis and their respective spouses are remarkably hospitable, even by Cretan standards. They each keep an apartment for themselves so their wives are always on hand to take care of their guests.Â
For shopping and really exploring the local countryside, we do recommend car hire. A local baker also visits Cormoranos every morning so fresh bread is readily available.
Nopigia, Crete
This little village, slightly rough around the edges in a typical Greek fashion, is the perfect place for those amongst us, who enjoy the quiet life and a drink in the evening with the local fishermen, combined with days exploring the utterly unspoilt surrounding countryside. One of Nopigia’s best kept secrets, is that although the beach itself is most definitely pebbly, as you enter the water your grateful feet will find soft, luxuriant sand, gently shelving out to sea for as far as you can walk! Apart from the two tavernas down by the beach there is also a small combined mini market & taverna a few minutes walk away. ...More about Nopigia >>

| The kindness and generosity of the owners of Cormoranos was outstanding & the apartment immaculate. Nopigia is a charming area - part of 'Old Ctrete'.
'The Captains Table' taverna,on the right hand side on entering Kastelli, with parking, I cannot recommend this taverna to highly. The location with fishing boats returning at sunset is superb, there is a wide range of food at very reasonable prices. The staff & owner were very welcoming & understand English. They have created a very congenial restaurant. |

| We loved the area, and the people were so friendly. Very unspoilt and un-touristy. We felt like we had visited the real Crete. Beautiful and spotless accommodation. We recommedned it to friends who also went and loved it.
We can't wait to go back !. |
