Villa Katerina, Spilia, Crete
Just above the small village of Spilia and named after Yianni's wife, Villa Katerina is situated in a small clearing amongst the olive groves that shoulder the little road that winds its way up to the tiny cave chapel of Agios Yianni.
Built in classical Cretan village style with a terracotta tiled roof, wooden shutters and soft ochre coloured walls, the villa offers wonderful panoramic views towards the sea on the very horizon over a seemingly endless canopy of olive trees. At ground floor level, the main entrance door leads into the spacious and elegant open plan living room with to one side a stylish fitted kitchen area with all the modern essentials you would expect, including a full cooker, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine.
Conveniently positioned nearby is a smart wooden dining table and chairs, whilst at the far end of the room a comfortable sofa and easy chairs are grouped around an open fireplace, where there is also a satellite T.V., D.V.D. and C.D. player and just the place to relax after a long days sightseeing.
Two sets of double patio doors open on to a large covered terrace with patio furniture for dining, overlooking the pristine tiled 9m x 4m swimming pool, with child's pool. Gardens laid to lawn and sunny terraces are furnished with sun beds and umbrellas.
On the ground floor the master bedroom with matrimonial style twin beds has an en-suite shower room with turbo massage shower. Double patio doors open directly onto the pool side sun terrace so, if the mood takes you, you can practically fall out of bed and roll into the pool.
On first floor there is one twin and one double bedroom. The twin bedroom has the en-suite bathroom with hydro massage bath whilst the double bedroom has a normal en-suite shower room. Both bedrooms have patio doors to a large upper terrace, where the views are even more remarkable and there's an external stairway providing easy access to the pool area below.
The bell tower of the village church, Panagia Mertiotissa rises above the olive trees approx 150 metres away from the villa. Guests should note that on Sunday and Saints days the bells ring intermittently from 8am to 10am, so suggest you plan your lie in for another day.

Spilia, Crete
A thirty minute drive west of Chania, Spilia is one of many small and timeless Cretan villages happily set back just far enough from the coast road to remain virtually untouched by tourism. It nevertheless gets a mention in some guide books for its impressive church, Panagia Mertiotissa. ...More about Spilia >>
