Villa specialist Freelance Holidays is highlighting its range of holiday homes on two islands usually the preserve of Europe’s rich and famous, but where just £49 per night can rent a two-bedroom apartment with sea views.

 This is for a quietly-set first-floor apartment in Cala Gonone, on Sardinia: Cala Gonone  a picturesque fishing community that was accessible only by boat or cliff-top path until a road tunnel was punched through the mountains a few years ago.  It’s just a couple of minutes’ stroll from the apartment to the bustling harbour’s choice of restaurants, bars and shops.

 This top floor apartment has French windows opening onto four balconies, with views to the sea in front and the hills behind.  Two bedrooms and the bathroom are accessed off an inner hallway and the airy living/kitchen/diner is well-equipped.

June dates start at £73 per night; July and August peak dates £136 per night and September stays from as little as £49 per night – or just £12.25 per person per night when four share.

 Prices are quoted on a per night basis, to reflect Freelance Holidays ‘any day arrival’ policy – new for the 2011 season – with flexible stays from five nights and upwards allowing travellers to take advantage of the cheapest low-cost air fares.

Elsewhere on Sardinia, three apartments on a terraced hillside have views over pines to the sandy beach of Cala Liberotto 500 metres away.  The owners use one apartment as a weekend pad, and because he is the local butcher, there’s no shortage of meat for the BBQ!  Rental of Panorama 2, which sleeps four in two bedrooms, is just £118 per night in the July and August holidays – a peak season bargain at less than £30 per person per night.

On Sicily, an apartment on the third floor of 19^th century Palazzo Bianco boasts high ceilings, antique furniture and views from the terrace over the roofs of Castellammare del Golf on the north-west coast.  Two bedrooms sleep four, with summer prices ranging from £107 to £129 per night – again, with any day arrival and any length of stay feasible.

 In all cases, prices do not include flights or car hire. The islands are served by Easyjet  and Ryanair as well as scheduled carriers.

Lunch time in Sicily

Ryanair have just announced they are launching daily flights starting on 27th March from Stansted direct to Palermo, its a bit of an early start (06.10) flight out, but you could be in Villa  Carlotta e Frederica  and have swam in the cristal clear waters before lunch !.

Other flights to Sicily include easyjet 3/4 times a week from Gatwick to Palermo, or Luton to Trapani flts with Ryanair 3 times a week.
