Hotel Marina Village, Palekastron, Crete
Hidden away in the olive groves, 800 metres from Palekastron and 600 metres from the three excellent tavernas on Huona Beach, this charming little, family run hotel was built some 17 years ago and offers a wonderful location for a quiet holiday. The Hotel's 30 simply furnished rooms all have ensuite shower rooms and private balconies or patio areas and are separated into four small 2 storey units, bright with bougainvillaea and set amidst the olive trees. At a short distance is the separate reception, with breakfast room, comfortable lounge and bar plus roof terrace with panoramic views of the sea, some 600 metres away through the olive groves. The hotel amazingly boasts its own tennis court as well as a swimming pool with adjoining children's pool.
Next to the pool and shaded by olive trees is a pretty little terrace where breakfast is normally served in the hot summer months.
Peaceful, tranquil and idyllic are all adjectives that spring readily to mind but be warned, after a holiday here, you may find it rather difficult to adjust again to the outside world. Prices are on a bed and breakfast basis and are remarkably inexpensive. Car hire recommended.
Boat Trips by caique, the term for a local fishing boat, are available three times a week and visit the off shore islands and secluded beaches along the coastline. Most trips include a picnic lunch. Further details and prices available locally. Windsurfers are also available for hire from the windsurfing school on the beach near the hotel.
Family Rooms: In addition to the normal twin or double bedded rooms, the hotel now offers a few family units, sleeping 2 adults and 2 children. Each unit is slightly different, but all have a main bedroom, plus a smaller bedroom with twin beds or bunk beds, with a shared shower room between. Prices for the family units are available on request and offer a considerable saving on two separate rooms.
Honeymoon Suites: These two very attractive rooms have been built in traditional Cretan style with a first floor sleeping gallery or Odas supported from below by an authentic beamed ceiling. At ground floor level there is a living area and additional sofa bed, plus a shower room. A gleaming wooden staircase leads to the sleeping gallery with its large double bed. These rooms are available for honeymooners at no extra cost on first come first served basis. N.B. They can also accommodate 2 adults plus a child at a small supplement. Prices on request.
Location of Hotel Marina Village
Palekastron, Crete
One of our discoveries many years ago now, this unsophisticated little Cretan village, 25 km east of Sitia, has been relatively unaffected by the inroads of tourism despite its superb nearby beaches. Nevertheless, with the advent of the Marina Village Hotel, changes slowly took place and today the village boasts a number of small pensions, almost a dozen tavernas, a couple of lively bars and even a hopeful disco. ...More about Palekastron >>
