Villa Nynemia, Almerida, Crete,
Featured in The Sunday Times "The 40 hottest villas in Europe"
Nynemia means peace in ancient Greek, a very appropriate name for a villa set in 6,000 square metres of land and surrounded by olive groves, for almost as far as the eye can see.
Standing on a terraced hillside a little under 1.5 km from Almerida, Nynemia enjoys glorious sea views and a tranquil rural setting, yet still remains within fairly easy walking distance of the beaches, shops and tavernas of Almirida, especially in the cool of the evening. A useful fact we thought, if perhaps you sometimes crave a little exercise after a sumptuous taverna meal and a glass or two of local wine!
Recently completed by the owners, Nektarios and Penelope , the house has air conditioning throughout, elegant hand made walnut furniture, plus quality kitchen and bathroom fittings (with English plumbing), all part of Penelope's philosophy that guests who really enjoy their stay are likely to return in the future, a point of view incidentally with which we entirely agree. From the driveway to the side of the house a pathway with a number of steps curves up to the main rear entrance terrace, where a door opens directly into the open plan living area at first floor level, with to the right the superbly fitted kitchen in an L shape complete with full cooker, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and a capuccino-espresso machine.
To the front of the room is a very comfortable living area, with an arrangement of comfortable wicker sofas and stylish dining table and chairs. The sea views from here are absolutely stunning but are even better from the adjoining terrace at the front of the villa, furnished for dining alfresco and protected from the sun by strips of woven sailcloth, the very latest thing in designer patio covering! A doorway off the living room leads to a beautifully furnished bedroom with twin beds matrimonial style and a very chic ensuite shower room, plus French windows to the same front terrace that runs the length of the villa at this level.
A smart wood trimmed staircase sweeps down from the lounge to the lower level, where there are two well furnished bedrooms, one with twin beds matrimonial style and an en-suite shower room, the other with a large double bed and a full en-suite bathroom, complete with washing machine tucked away in a cupboard. Both bedrooms have French windows to the cool and shady lower terrace.
To the far side of the villa is the tiled 9m x 5m mineral pool (no Chlorine, water is filtered through salts), complete with a gazebo offering shade in the heat of the day, as well as an outside shower and plenty of sun beds. A purpose built barbecue is conveniently located to the rear of the property near the kitchen terrace.
NB. The swimming pool has a standard depth of 1.70m so may not be suitable for young children or non-swimmers. For home entertainment, the villa has a satellite TV with DVD player and play station console plus a CD player for music.

*** You can have more room in your cases as Penny is providing pool towels for her guests this year!

It is within fairly easy walking distance of the beaches, shops and tavernas of Almirida, sleeps six in three bedrooms, all ensuite, has an 9m x 5m swimming pool with gazebo, outside shower and sun-beds. “Our most popular property is Villa Nynemia - we get people calling whilst they are there on holiday to book for the next year and we have about four families who go every year (and one family who keep asking to buy it),” says Managing Director, Paul Fogg."
