Villa Armeni, Armeni, Crete
This lovely neo-classical, air conditioned, 4 bedroom Villa in the village of Armeni is conveniently located 5 mins walk from the centre, with its tavernas and excellent village shop. On the village square, under the spreading boughs of an ancient tree the old cafenion, ‘home from home’ for the male inhabitants of the village, sipping their tiny cups of syrupy Greek coffee whilst putting the world to rights, is the outlet for fresh bread of a morning and a very convenient arrangement.
The open plan living area has been furnished in a comfortable and attractive style with sofas in the living area, from which French windows lead onto terraces and thus to the gardens, laid to lawn and backed by acres of citrus trees. The modern dining area is a bright and pleasant spot to linger over a meal - or dine outside on the terrace through the French doors and admire the view over the orange groves to the distant villages of the Apokoronou. As you would expect, the modern and bright kitchen area is well equipped with all mod cons – full cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine.Â
A further favourite dining spot is found down in the garden, where a gazebo provides shade and it’s certainly worthy of the small extra effort required to transport breakfast or lunch to be eaten by the cool blue water of the lovely pool, where children can play in the separate shallower area (0.5m).
Nearby is a purpose built barbecue area.
On the first floor, each of the 3 bedrooms, 1 double with ensuite bathroom , a second double and a twin bedroom each have their own private balcony. On this level is also a family bathroom with a hydro massage bath and shower. Found at the top of a second flight of stairs is a second twin bedroom with its own small ensuite shower room.
The sandy beaches and ‘bright lights’ of Kalives are an easy 5 mins drive away and here you will find banks, post office, mini-markets, bakeries and some lovely waterside tavernas. Villa Armeni is in an excellent position for exploring all that Crete has to offer, as access to the national highway is very easy, making it possible to travel east and west with ease. Wherever you do visit during the day, you are sure to enjoy a sense of returning home to Villa Armeni as you gently settle into Cretan village life and begin to wish ‘kali mera’ or ‘kali spera’ to each neighbour you pass.Â
