Lefteri's House, Maleme, Crete

The hamlet of Metochi was once just a simple farming community embracing 6 or 7 houses tucked away in the countryside 1km from Maleme and 1.5km from the sea. In recent times many of the old houses have been renovated but the hamlet retains its tranquil aura and sense of community making it a perfect base for a quiet holiday, yet still within easy striking distance of Chania and a choice of lovely beaches strung along the coast.

Lefteri's home, originally a rambling old farmhouse dating back to the 19th century has now been carefully restored and transformed into 2 adjoining but entirely private houses, both retaining many of the original features and stonework which together with all mod cons and some lovely furnishings, provide the ultimate in comfort and 21st century chic.

From the parking area to the side of the property a gateway opens into a high walled courtyard and the inviting 8m x 4m pool with integral children's pool with jacuzzi and surrounded by sun terraces where there is also a purpose built barbecue.

Two covered archways provide shaded entrances to the house as well as cool spots to retreat to in the heat of the day. Inside, the elegant living area comes complete with a corner fireplace, satellite TV, CD & DVD player and two comfortable sofas. From here a stone archway leads through to the modern and beautifully appointed kitchen, with stainless steel cooker & hob, large fridge freezer, microwave, dish washer and sizeable dining table. Outside, a covered archway overlooking the pool provides a perfect spot to linger over a barbecued lunch, equipped with its own hardwood patio dining table and chairs.

At first floor level are two double and one twin bedroom, all with wood panelled ceilings and beautifully furnished. The twin and one of the double rooms have patio doors to their own terraces overlooking the pool, whilst the master double bedroom boasts a four poster bed, as well as its own small fridge and patio doors to an open terrace with a flight of marble steps, patrician style, leading directly down to the pool. All three bedrooms have their own satellite TV.

The three bedrooms share two stylishly appointed bathrooms, one at ground floor and one at first floor level. Both are equipped with turbo massage baths and the ground floor bathroom also contains a washing machine.

Lefteri's house is fully air conditioned and the pool has convenient steps into the shallow end.

Lefteris mother, Kyria Joanna who lives nearby, has become a favourite with our customers, not only for her delicious Cretan pies or biscuits but for her warm hospitality and gift at making our customers truly feel like guests in their home. You will probably also meet Lefteri as he looks after the pool in his spare time and lives nearby with his lovely young wife and daughter, still finding time to pursue his love of fishing from his own yacht.
